Thursday Talks: Wit & Wisdom

Fort George Thursday Night Lecture Series

Join Seth Tichenor this Thursday, May 12, 2022 in the Lovell Showroom at Fort George Brewery (1438 Duane Street) as he presents wit & wisdom regarding Why Do We Love Our Friends? at 7pm.

We all know how important our friends are to us, but this isn’t half of it. It’s not just that we enjoy our friends, or that they are integral to our everyday lives.  We will make decisions and take actions that are sometimes against our own interests and even our values for the sake of our friends. Indeed it’s been said that a friend is “another self”. But what does all this mean? Are our friends fundamentally important to happiness? Are there different kinds of “friends”, and do they mean different things to us? Why do we weigh and value the unique moral, psychological, and even spiritual obligations to friends in the way that we do, and how might this be connected to our own sense of self?

Philosofarian brings Wit & Wisdom to Fort George every 2nd Thursday of the month.

Doors open at 6pm, and food & beverages are available. This event is all ages and there is no cover!

Saturday-Sunday

Birds of a Feather Spring Festival

Wildlife Center of the North CoastCelebrate spring and raise funds for the Wildlife Center of the North Coast (89686 Hwy. 202) Saturday and Sunday, May 14-15, 2022 from 10am-4pm at the Birds of a Feather Spring Festival

This fun, two-day festival is our Annual Spring Open House & Native Plant Sale, with free tours of our facility, fun activities for the kids, awesome raffle prizes, and visits with our Education Ambassadors.

Spring is a great time to learn all about baby birds, what to do if you find one, and how to best coexist with wildlife during this crucial part of their life cycle. We’ll teach you about courting, mating, and nesting habits of some of our favorite birds & give you pointers on when and where you can see them.

Money raised at the event supports the center’s 2022 Birds of a Feather Annual Campaign. Donations to the campaign support the Wildlife Center of the North Coast‘s mission of promoting compassion, empathy, and respect for all life through wildlife rehabilitation, ecological teachings, and wildlife conservation.

There will be badminton and croquet along with contests such as pie-eating and sack races. There will prizes for the kids. The kids will enjoy testing their skills with the hoop and stick, ball and cup, stilts, or rope-making.
