Shanghaied in Astoria

Astor Street OpryPerformances of the 38th season of Astor Street Opry‘s Shanghaied in Astoria take place at 7pm every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday through September 10, 2022, with three Sunday matinees; July 24, August 21, and September 4.

Shanghaied in Astoria is a vaudeville-esque musical melodrama set in mid-summer 1904, around the time of the annual Scandinavian Midsummer Festival.  Eric Olson, our Norwegian hero, sets out to rescue his sweetheart Miss Virginia Sweet, who is a ward of the villainous Max Krooke. 

Visit the website for ticket purchase options.  Tickets are $15 or $20, depending on seating location.  The Astor Street Opry company theater is located at 129 W Bond Street.

Astori-Us Day

Astori-Us Day 2022Over 30 local business will be celebrating Astori-Us Day this Friday, July 15, 2022 from 11am to 8pm with events, performances, sidewalk sales, and more! 

Kit’s Apothecary (1332 Commercial) will celebrate their new location with a ribbon cutting at 11am.  Astoria’s favorite magician, Seth Howard, will be performing a The Magic Shop (1125 Commercial) at 1:3pm, and don’t miss the sidewalk sales at Gulley’s Butcher Shop (1255 Commercial), Purple Cow Toys (1380 Commercial), Vintage Hardware (1343 Commercial), and more!  Keep your eyes and ears open as you stroll through downtown for live music and other entertainment too!

Performathon 2022

Performathon 2022The Ten Fifteen Theater (1016 Commercial) presents the 24 hour Performathon 2022 from Friday July 15th at 7:15pm through July 16th at 7:15pm.

Join us to celebrate our first year back from the pandemic!  Over the course of 24 hours, audiences will be amazed, delighted, and throughly entertained.  (Or perhaps we will just be delirious!)

This fundraising event will feature scenes, monologues, music, dance, and more!

Astoria Sunday Market

The Astoria Sunday Market runs from 10am to 3pm every Sunday through mid-October on 12th Street downtown, between Marine Drive and Exchange.

Astoria Sunday Market, at the heart of Astoria’s Downtown, combines fresh produce, local arts & crafts, food, music and more in a lively downtown street market atmosphere. The market features up to 200 vendors each week offering locally-made products that have been hand-crafted, grown, created or gathered by the farmers, craftspeople and artisans featured each week. In addition, the Market has a lively food court with regional entertainment making this the gathering place each Sunday for locals and visitors to the region.  

1st annual Hot Dog Eating Competition “Dawgz for Dogs”

Goon Dawgz  1st annual hot dog eating contest!You don’t want to miss the Goon Dawgz 1st annual Hot Dog Eating Competition, Dawgz for Dogs, this Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 4pm down at the cart (1248 Marine Drive).

Goon Dawgz will be slinging their exceptional dogs Sunday beginning at noon, but will pause for the event from 4pm-4:30pm. 

First place price is a hot dog medal and goodies, and second and third place will win a gift basket.

Attendance is free, but to compete you must be over 18, and there is a $20 entry fee. Check out the Goon Dawgz website for the registration and ticket form.

Clatsop County Animal Shelter will receive all proceeds from the competition entry fee, and will have adoptable dogs at the event!

The July 2022 edition of Second Saturday Art Walk is upon us.

From noon until 8pm on Saturday, July 9 explore art at galleries and shops throughout downtown-and beyond.

Astoria July 4th Weekend Amusements

Come for the fireworks on the river, stay for the live music and beer and Sunday Market!  The fireworks will be launched at 10pm over the river; there’ll be a great view from downtown and the North facing hills.  Don’t miss Metamorphafest II on Sunday!

From Sea to Shining Sea

The North Coast Symphonic Band concludes their 42nd season with a free concert, From Sea to Shining Sea, an Independence Day concert, at the Liberty Theatre (1203 Commercial) this Sunday, July 3, 2022. 

The guest conductor is Brett Paschal, director of bands at Lewis and Clark College in Portland. 

The concert features an exciting mix of American favorites, including several Marches, a Broadway medley, American Riversongs, Bugler’s Holiday (A trumpet feature), and more. The traditional Armed Forces medley, will also be performed, and a rousing rendition of Stars and Stripes Forever. The MC for the afternoon will be Brian Bergman.

Admission is free!  Doors open at 6pm, prelude begins at 6:30pm. 

Metamorphafest II

Metamorphafest 2022Not sure of the spelling (Metamorphaphest? Metamorphefest? Metamorfest? Metamorphafest?) but it’s a free backyard jamboree rock show!  It takes place Sunday, July 3, 2022 from 1pm-6pm at 1440 Irving Street in Astoria.  Seven bands will perform:

I understand there may also be a Giant bouncy house! Fireworks! Taco truck!!

Fort George 4th of July

Fort George BreweryWatch the fireworks from the new Bier Pier on Monday, July 4, 2022, located out on the river side (duh!) of the Fort George Brewery‘s waterfront facility at 70 West Marine Drive.

This 4th of July, we’ll be firing up the food truck, tapping your favorite Fort George Beers, and jammin’ to live music at our Waterfront location (70 W. Marine Dr. – just east of the Megler Bridge!) Festivities start at 5PM with live music from local legends Michael Hurley, Brian Bovenizer & The New Old Stock, and Astoria’s Grateful Dead Tribute Band. Plus, we’ve got uninterrupted views of Astoria’s fireworks show.

All ages, no cover!  Last call is when the fireworks start, a little after 10pm.  Don’t try to park there; take the River Walk!
