Nature Matters: Monitoring Clatsop Plains Elk

Fort George Thursday Night Lecture Series

Join  Scientists in Parks steward Emily Scott this Thursday, May 26, 2022 as she presents on  Monitoring Clatsop Plains Elk at the Lovell Showroom at Fort George Brewery (1438 Duane Street).

Elk are a quintessential figure of the Pacific Northwest, and a relic of cultural, historical, and ecological significance within the Clatsop Plains. Beginning in 2008, Lewis and Clark National Historical Park and its partners implemented a research plan which gathers key information on Clatsop Plains elk herds. These data are integral for a sound understanding of local elk ecology and have direct implications on management decisions aiming for balanced preservation of elk and human interests. This seminar by Scientists-in-Parks Steward, Emily Scott, will help you get to know your ungulate neighbors by describing this research, what it reveals, and what it could mean.

The Nature Matters series of talks takes place the fourth Thursday of each month, and is brought to you by the Lewis and Clark National Historical Park and the North Coast Watershed Association.

Doors open at 6pm, and food & beverages are available. This event is all ages and there is no cover!

Thursday Talks: Wit & Wisdom

Fort George Thursday Night Lecture Series

Join Seth Tichenor this Thursday, May 12, 2022 in the Lovell Showroom at Fort George Brewery (1438 Duane Street) as he presents wit & wisdom regarding Why Do We Love Our Friends? at 7pm.

We all know how important our friends are to us, but this isn’t half of it. It’s not just that we enjoy our friends, or that they are integral to our everyday lives.  We will make decisions and take actions that are sometimes against our own interests and even our values for the sake of our friends. Indeed it’s been said that a friend is “another self”. But what does all this mean? Are our friends fundamentally important to happiness? Are there different kinds of “friends”, and do they mean different things to us? Why do we weigh and value the unique moral, psychological, and even spiritual obligations to friends in the way that we do, and how might this be connected to our own sense of self?

Philosofarian brings Wit & Wisdom to Fort George every 2nd Thursday of the month.

Doors open at 6pm, and food & beverages are available. This event is all ages and there is no cover!
